The Cipher Society

Curated investigations for those who seek more than answers.

Immersive mystery experiences woven through the streets, scenery, and dining rooms of Saratoga, California. Each case unfolds differently. Each participant is chosen deliberately.

Begin Investigation

Rooted in Saratoga.

The Cipher Society founders in Saratoga

We grew up in Saratoga — among its quiet foothills, its tucked-away trails, and the kind of neighborhood restaurants where the owners know your name. Over the years we watched friends visit and leave without ever seeing the places we loved most. That bothered us.

We wanted a way to share Saratoga the way we experience it: slowly, deliberately, and always ending at a great table. A walking tour felt too passive. A dinner reservation alone didn't capture the feeling of discovering something hidden. So we built something in between — an investigation that weaves through the places we care about and rewards curiosity with an evening of exceptional food.

The mystery is the vehicle, not the destination. Every clue is designed to lead you somewhere worth being — a view you'd normally drive past, a corner of town most people never find, a restaurant we've spent years building a relationship with. The puzzle gives you a reason to pay attention; the city and the meal give you a reason to remember.

We are currently in an open beta — testing new cases and refining the experience. During this period, anyone can request to join by email. Because our restaurant partners and venues have limited availability, all bookings enter a lottery each month. Selected participants are notified directly with scheduling details.

How a case unfolds.

01

Invitation & Selection

Your engagement begins with a discreet invitation. Cases are offered by selection; once accepted, you join a small group for an evening structured as a single narrative case.

02

The Briefing

You receive orientation and the opening context for your case. Expect clear direction, a measured pace, and the sense that the city itself has become part of the story.

03

Investigation

The case advances through real locations in and around Saratoga. Clues lead you from place to place; a short drive may be required between certain stages, so plan accordingly.

04

The Final Stage

Everything builds to this. The final stage takes place at one of Saratoga's most beautiful locations — a setting chosen to make the resolution feel as memorable as the journey. Bring a camera; you'll want to.

05

The Dinner

Those who resolve the case are seated for a fine dining experience at one of three carefully chosen partner restaurants. The venue is revealed as part of the evening; identities remain part of the mystery.

We recommend smart casual attire throughout. The evening concludes with a fine dining reservation — dress in a way that suits both investigation and the table that follows.

Practical details.

Duration

The investigation itself takes approximately one to one and a half hours. Dinner follows separately at your assigned restaurant.

Dress Code

Smart casual is recommended. The evening ends at a fine dining venue; attire should be appropriate for both outdoor movement and the final reservation.

Transportation

A short drive may be required between certain stages. Participants should have access to a vehicle for the duration of the case.

Group Size

Cases are composed for small groups so the narrative and pacing remain intimate and coherent.

Photography

Saratoga lends itself to photography at every turn. The final stage is set in an especially memorable place — if you enjoy photography, we recommend bringing a camera.

Dining

Each case concludes with a reservation at one of three rotating partner restaurants. The specific venue is disclosed as part of the experience.
